Santana
With approximately 47 million certified albums sold in the US and an estimated 100 million sales globally, Santana is among the best-selling acts of all time. Of its 25 studio albums, 14 made it into the US top 10. The Santana, Rolie, Carabello, Shrieve, Brown, and Areas lineup was admitted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
Among the many accolades that Santana has won are eight Grammy Awards and three Latin Grammy Awards. The Grammy Hall of Fame has honored their albums Abraxas (1999) and the original Santana (2012). The Latin Grammy Hall of Fame inducted their hit song "Oye Como Va" in 2001.
Following a line-up and musical direction shift in 1972, the band experimented with jazz fusion elements on the albums Caravanserai (1972), Welcome (1973), and Borboletta (1974). The band reached a new level of popularity with their 1999 album Supernatural, which included the songs "Maria Maria," featuring The Product G&B, and "Smooth," featuring singer Rob Thomas.
Counting Crows
In 1991, the American rock group Counting Crows formed for the first time. Following the release of August and Everything After (1993), Counting Crows had a surge in popularity. After the breakthrough smash song "Mr. Jones" was released in 1993, the album sold over 7 million copies in the United States. The group received two Grammy Award nominations in 1994: one for "Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal" (for the song "Round Here") and another for "Best New Artist."
The follow-up album, Recovering the Satellites, topped other overseas charts in addition to the US Billboard 200 album list, where it peaked at number one. All (but one) of their subsequent albums peaked at number 10 on the Billboard 200.
"Mr. Jones" is merely one of their popular tunes. A rendition of Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi" and other favorites like "Rain King," "A Long December," and "Hanginaround" are among them.
In 2004, the song "Accidentally in Love," which was featured in the film Shrek 2, earned Counting Crows an Academy Award nomination. Over 20 million CDs have been sold by the group, which is well-known for its dynamic live performances. Billboard has ranked the ensemble as the eighth-best Adult Alternative Artist of all time.
